nPAE presents the magnetic alternative to changing your astro imaging filters. Using high power magnets to hold the imaging filters in place you can meridian flip the telescope and not drop the imaging filters. When you want to change you simply pull the imaging filter out and replace it.
The Theia Astro Imaging Filter Changer Kit has a light baffled 2 inch nose and a 2 inch accessory socket, fixed by thumb screws, which is long enough to position accessories for the correct back focus. Additionally the kit contains an 2″ to M48 adpator that also takes a second filter allowing you to experiment with different filter combinations.
Thinner than a filter wheel, the Theia Astro Imaging Filter Changer Kit is an inline holder that won’t add off-axis weight to your setup.

I’ve had the chance to use the Theia filter changer on several occasions now and ive nothing but praise for it. Its simplicity of design make it a pleasure to use. This has clearly been designed with great care and attention. Not only is it an extremely well made piece of kit the filter changes are silky smooth with no stickiness or excess pressure required when changing the filter holders in/out. Cheaper alternatives ive tried work no where near as well.
Unlike filter wheels the Theia offers a great solution especially for planetary observing and imaging where you often have a wide range of filters you want to use. Using typical filter wheels you often have limited slots for filters. With the Theia you can swap around loaded filters in seconds without having to take apart a filter wheel. This is something i really like and it gives you chance to really experiment and use filters that perhaps you otherwise wouldn’t. It also presents a great solution for those not wanting the complexity of a motorised filter wheel in the system.
With the Theia system its as simple as it looks and integrating it into any observing or imaging system is very straightforward. Some may think perhaps the price is a little on the high side for something that isnt motorised but as already mentioned this is an extremely well made device and not something cheaply put together. Overall it represents an incredibly simple and effective solution for integrating filters into your observing system. Visual observers would also find the Theia extremely useful enabling swaping filters in/out in seconds.
Overall a really impressive system – and it comes in a tough protective carry case to boot.
