The deadline came and went for the 2023 Northern Hemisphere Competition and what a whole load of treats we found in our inbox!

As always the quality of the entries speak for themselves. Fortunately for the public vote we only had to choose a final 13, but which one do you think is the best?

Lorand from Hungary enters The hidden nebula of Merope (IC349).
Equipment used: Starfire 206 EDF, Fornax 150, QHY 268C
Imaging Target: The big picture is dominated by the diffuse nebula NGC 1435, located south of Merope. Its brilliant luminosity and filaments make for a stunning sight. It is known as the Merope Nebula. However, it is not the main theme in this image, but the tiny object with the catalogue number IC 349, discovered in November 1890 by the American astronomer Edward Emerson Barnard, who described it as a comet-like nebula. It hides next to Merope.

    I like the contrast between the cloudy gaseous region, and the very clear night sky, with so many objects, all around the cloudy region. I like the use of color, many different colors, and shades of colors, not just primary colors, that add interest. Also the cloudy region as a focal point, but so many other objects and galaxies in the additional area in the very wide frame.
