2024 Northern Hemisphere Winners
It is with great delight we announce the winners of the nPAE Northern Hemisphere 2024 astrophotography competition!
As you could see from the final 16 Public Vote stage, the standard has always been excellent and attempting to decide between them is no small task. All the entries were winners in their own right, and we thank everyone for taking part.
The Public Vote was decisively won by Vishal from India with 40% of all votes cast. Well done Vishal! However the judges had their own ideas and were not swayed by public opinion this time.
In reverse order, the winners are:
3rd – Kartik from the UK with Cygnus Loop
This a great wide field image and only on the close up can you really see the intricate detail. Great job Kartik, you win the nPAE Gift Pack.
2nd – Amrit from Trinidad and Tobago with Sunspot AR3590 in White light
In black and white, this white light image shows nice clarity around the umbra and penumbra. The granules of the photosphere can clearly be seen on the close up. Amrit wins the £50 nPAE Gift Voucher.
1st – Simone from Italy, The Witch’s Gaze
This image is so good at multiple levels and this is the reason it won. The Witch’s gaze, the reflection nebula IC2118, staring toward the star Rigel in Orion is stunning in of itself. An examination of the close ups and there are pin sharp stars across the field, Rigel is amazing and the top of the witch’s head has superb nebulosity. There are even spiral armed galaxies to be made out in the far background. Congratulations Simone. The first prize of £200 is on its way to you.
Simone and the Witch’s Gaze go forward to the 2024 World Championship. The Southern Hemisphere stage starts on 1st June!
